The Mind Behind Prowess: Built Different by Design

Chris Macioch - Prowess

Prowess is built on a foundation of globally protected innovation.

Our decentralized data storage architecture is supported by patent coverage across major global markets, including the United States, Canada, China, Japan, and key European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

This global footprint reflects years of vision, development, and commitment to rethinking how data can be stored, protected, distributed, and recovered in a rapidly evolving digital world.

Behind that vision is a mindset that has always challenged convention.

Our Chief Creative Officer, Chris Macioch, has always embraced individuality — not as a phase, but as a way of life.

Growing up in a blue-collar town in New Jersey, about 40 minutes from the ocean, Chris was introduced to surfing at a young age by his father. While most kids in his community followed the expected path, Chris gravitated toward something different — something that felt like identity.

Surf culture became part of who he was early on.

Through primary school, he stood alone in that identity. He was the only kid he knew who surfed. By high school, there were only a couple of others who shared that same connection to the ocean — but by then, Chris had already carved out his own lane.

He remembers wearing Vans in fifth grade and getting made fun of because no one knew what they were. Today, that same brand is embedded in mainstream culture — a small but telling example of what happens when you are simply ahead of the curve.

That pattern would repeat itself.

When his family eventually moved closer to the beach and Chris became a lifeguard, he was labeled an outsider — a “Benny lifeguard.”

But Chris did not resist it.

He embraced it.

Instead of trying to fit in, he took pride in being different — and more importantly, he used it as fuel to prove that he could do everything the locals could do, and do it his own way.

That mindset became foundational.

Chris has always had a deep passion for creativity — but not just in the artistic sense. His creativity lives in how he thinks, how he questions norms, and how he approaches problems.

He does not look for the “right” way to do something.
He looks for every possible way.

“I like going against the grain. Everybody does things a certain way and they all do them pretty well. I want to look at all the possible ways to do them — and then do them differently.”

But just as important as thinking differently, Chris has always believed in building systems where everyone benefits.

A symbiotic relationship — where participants contribute, earn, and grow together.

A model that is not only sustainable from a business standpoint, but also mindful of environmental impact by leveraging what already exists.

Rethinking the Cloud From the Ground Up

Prowess was born from a simple but powerful idea:

What if data storage did not rely entirely on massive centralized infrastructure?
What if it could be distributed, resilient, and embedded into the world around us?

  • Farmers — host storage nodes and earn passive income
  • Data Utility Layer — manages distribution, encryption, and redundancy
  • Subscribers — individuals and enterprises needing secure, scalable storage

Guaranteed data recovery through distribution — not duplication.
Economic opportunity through participation — not centralization.

Built Different On Purpose

Prowess is a reflection of a mindset that challenges convention.

Different isn’t just an advantage.
It’s necessary.
